Looking and listening to Jesus

Yesterday we heard two convicting sermons. At the morning service our ministerial intern, Pablo Landázuri, preached on “Running the Race of Christian Life” from Hebrews 11:32-12:3. He pointed out that this race requires perseverance and patience. There are three ways we must run the race: by considering that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, by getting rid of the weight of sin that ensnares us, and by looking at Jesus Christ that author and finisher of our faith.

At the evening service, Rev. Doug Barnes challenged us to “Worship by the Word” from Deuteronomy 12:1-7 & 28-32 as he preached on Lord’s Day 35 from the Heidelberg Catechism, which explores the second commandment. He spoke on how God’s grateful people bring the worship the Lord commands by submitting to God’s instruction, shunning man-made images, and savoring Christ’s voice.

Both of these messages called me to this truth: Look and listen to Jesus!
